Apple Takes Away Samsung’s Crown To Become World’s Number 1 Smartphone Vendo

In a similar fashion in the cat and mouse game between Apple and the jailbreakers, I am pretty sure that this back and forth saga between Apple and Samsung is likely to continue for quite some time. The two companies have an extremely turbulent relationship, with Apple on one hand being Samsung’s largest components customer, but the two companies are also dragging each other through different lawsuits claiming the other has infringed upon certain patents.

Samsung loses bid to ban iPhone 4S in Italy

SEOUL: Samsung Electronics Co, the maker of the Galaxy mobile devices, failed to win a sales ban on Apple Inc's latest iPhone in Italy, as a global patent dispute between the two companies continues.

Milan court rejected the Suwon, South Korea- based company's bid to block the iPhone 4S in Italy, said Nam Ki Yung, a Seoul-based spokesman for Samsung, confirming an earlier report by Ansa news agency.

Samsung, which reported a 73 per cent jump in fourth- quarter operating profit after selling a record number of handsets last year, also failed to win a sales ban on the iPhone 4S in France last month. Samsung and Apple have been suing each other in multiple countries over patents related to mobile technologies and designs since the iPhone maker accused the South Korean rival of copying its products last year.

"We will review the ruling and consider all available measures to further protect our intellectual property rights and stop this free riding on our technology," Samsung said in a statement, referring to the court's decision.

Steve Park, an Apple spokesman in Seoul, reiterated the company's earlier statement on the dispute that Apple needs to protect its intellectual property against "blatant copying."

Samsung fell 1.4 per cent to 1,040,000 won at the close of trading in Seoul, the lowest level since Dec. 20. The stock was the biggest contributor to the benchmark Kospi index's 1.1 per cent decline.

The South Korean electronics maker overtook Apple as the world's largest maker of smartphones in the third quarter, helped by the popularity of the Galaxy line of products.

Samsung's ultralight N100 delivers Atom-powered MeeGo to the Indian masses

Samsung MeeGo
MeeGo machines are a little hard to come by here in the states, but our friends in the Indian subcontinent are getting some cartoony Linux love from the fine folks at Samsung. The company's new N100 netbook (similar to the N150 above) comes packing a 1.33GHz, dual-core Atom N435 and 1GB of DDR3 RAM for pushing the formerly Nokia-bound OS to a matte 10.1-inch screen. Inside that svelte 2.27-pound package is also a 250GB hard drive and a meager 3-cell battery. If you happen to strolling the streets of Hyderabad you'll be able to pick up one of these lithe lappies for 12,290 rupees, or about $276.
