Angry Birds Space Now Available For Download on iOS, Android, PC & Mac

Angry Birds has been to iOS and Android what Call Of Duty has been to consoles over the the last few years. Those crazy, unstoppable birds have flown as far as PC, Mac, Facebook and Google Chrome in their never-ending quest to defend the nest.

With three versions already on the market, Rovio has added a fourth edition to Angry Birds Rio, Angry Birds Seasons and the original version. First previewed earlier this month, Angry Birds Space takes things quite literally to another dimension. The initial trailer featured International Space Station rep Don Pettit, and was actually filmed in a spaceship, with Pettit test-firing plush toy versions of the fluffy birds at zero gravity.

Angry Birds Space incorporates some of the physics we’ve already seen, but as you’d expect from outer space, the game contains planets with their own gravitational agendas – keeping things interesting. Up until now, the series could be accused of being rather same – with levels, birds, and their respective powers not variant enough to differentiate each title.
If you’re an Angry Birds addict (and there are plenty of you out there), you can download Angry Birds Space via the download links below. Those wielding the smartphone-come-tablet that is the Samsung Galaxy Note can enjoy exclusive content including a branded level, a 30-level DLC pack for free, and the coveted new Lazer bird.

Feel free to let us know if the new game lives up to your expectations, by dropping a comment on our Facebook or Google+ pages!

iPhone games primed for holiday travel

iPhone Screenshot 5

How to stay sane while traveling over the holidays?
Planes, trains and automobile rides can be a lot more palatable if you’ve got an iOS device with you – namely, an iPhone, iPod touch or iPad – as there are many thousands of great games to download at the iTunes App Store.
And for those who blew their budget of Christmas or Hanukkah gifts, the good news is these digital diversions are only about $1 or $2 apiece, if not free.
Whether it’s for yourself or to reduce the “are we there yet?” questions from the kids, consider one or more of the following games to stay entertained.
Where’s My Water?
(Disney Mobile; $0.99 cents; 4 stars out of 4)
One of the very best puzzlers of the year is “Where’s My Water?,” a fun and challenging physics-based game. Disney Mobile’s first original game character, Swampy, stars as a friendly alligator on a quest to be squeaky clean. Except the poor scaly guy can’t use his shower because the pipes are broken, bent or have other obstacles in the way, such as rocks, moss and acid. You must use your fingertip to guide the water through the level to help Swampy out. But the task is easier said than done. The game features many dozens of increasingly challenging worlds, cute graphics and music, and entertaining story sequences.
Breakout Boost
(Atari; free; 3 stars out of 4)
One of the most influential video games of the 1970s has made its way to the iPhone — with a few new tricks up its sleeve. Based on the classic “Breakout” brick-breaking arcade game, “Breakout: Boost” offers five free levels of play as you use your finger tip to move a paddle left and right and prevent a bouncing ball from hitting the ground. At the same time you’ll need to destroy all the bricks on the board, get around obstacles and take advantage of various power-ups, such as multi-ball, paddle extender, laser blaster and fire balls (plus new ones like grenade and acid balls). Players can also pick up bonus points by speeding up the action. Be aware the five levels are over fairly quickly, but you can buy additional levels as an in-app purchase.
MinoMonsters
(MinoMonsters, Inc.; $0.99 cents; 3.5 stars out of 4)
Fans of “collect and battle” games like Nintendo’s “Pokémon” will no doubt enjoy this anime-inspired adventure. “MinoMonsters” is a single and multiplayer strategy game that has you capture, train and battle various monsters, each with their own unique look, personality and combat style. The turn-based battles between teams take place over a huge kingdom, known as Zancardi. And while your MiniMonsters upgrade their skills through experience you’ll also come across power-ups and candy, both of which can be used to take on more difficult creatures. The game also has you taking care of your monsters — by feeding and petting them — to keep their spirits up. There’s also an option to purchase more credits to be used in the game’s store.
Scribblenauts Remix
(Warner Bros.; $0.99; 4 stars out of 4)
“Scribblenauts Remix” is one of those rare gems that is easy to pick up but impossible to put down. As the game’s hero Maxwell, your job per level is to type out words — an object, say, or a person — and when they materialize in the world they can be used to solve the puzzle in question. For example, one level challenges you and a friend to cross some water with a shark swimming in it. What to do? Type in “boat” and sail to the other side. Or “jetpack.” Or “bridge.” Or “bomb” and kill the shark before swimming across. Because you get to decide how to solve each puzzle, it helps kids (and kids at heart) flex their imagination, and no two games may play out the same way. A recent update adds holiday items and voice support for iPhone 4S (say what you want to appear in the world), and more.

iPhone App Video Review: Grand Theft Auto 3

At long last, Rockstar has brought Grand Theft Auto III to the App Store in its entirety, celebrating its 10 year anniversary. Undoubtedly a game changer when it was first released, do these mechanics really hold up today? If so, did they survive the touch screen conversion? I'm delighted to report… yeah, pretty much.
Just in case you've somehow remained unexposed to this game for the last decade, I'll give you the run down. GTA III was to open world sandbox games what Halo was to shooters and God of War was to action-adventure titles, bringing great innovation and setting the precedent for the next decade of gaming. Upon starting the game, you're thrown into crime ridden Liberty City. After being betrayed, jailed, and subsequently broken out, you proceed to climb various crime ladders as you interact with gangsters, drug lords, the mafia, and more. The story is very R-rated, of course, and the characters are well crafted caricatures and stereotypes, all voice acted very well.
The new touch screen controls, however, don't hold up quite as well. There were a LOT of functions mapped to the PS2 controller, and all those buttons must now be crammed onto the screen. You control movement with a touch-anywhere left thumb-stick. Various virtual buttons control your jump, sprint, attack, accelerate, reverse, brake, and other various functions. Swiping the middle of the screen moves the camera, and using the mini-map or changing weapons requires you to touch the corners. The controls are surprisingly well done, at least until you get to combat. The auto-targeting mechanics are a bit wonky, and you'll spend more time fighting the camera than any given enemy. It's also easy to accidentally hit the wrong button due to them being packed so tightly. I had a very hard time progressing due to various control related deaths. Despite all of this, the game is still extremely fun. If you can get used to the controls, it's definitely worth playing.
This is still one of the all time greats, even though titles like Vice City and San Andreas are even more polished. The fun comes from the wide variety of things you can do at any given time, choosing between different story missions, completing the Taxi, Ambulance, and Vigilante side missions, or just going on random rampages through the city. As you commit crimes and progress through the game, more devastating weapons will be made available while tougher variants of law enforcement try to hunt you down, eventually leading to the full force of the military. The only thing this game is really missing are the cheat codes. If I can't summon health, armor, weapons, unlimited ammo, and a Rhino tank, it just isn't the same game...
The graphics are dated but still look fine in HD, though the pop up is really noticeable now. The soundtrack and various fictional radio stations are a blast from the past. If you've enjoyed Gameloft's Gangstar series but haven't played the GTA games that series is emulating, you owe it to yourself to see how it's properly done. The nostalgia factor alone is powerful enough to warrant a purchase. You can pick up this iOS Universal classic for the launch price of five dollars, so don't miss out.
