A bungling thief who pinched an iPhone was arrested 45 minutes later - after the victim traced him using her tracking app.
Police found Liam Aspin, aged 31, using MobileMe, which tracks the phone using sophisticated satellite technology.
Student Rio Bridge, 20, had fortunately loaded the handy app to her iPhone, went missing while she was on a shopping trip to a supermarket in Earlestown, St Helens, Merseyside.

She then told police her boyfriend was able to track the phone's whereabouts using an application on his own mobile phone.
It resulted in the shocked and startled thief getting a knock on his front door from police within 45 minutes of the Apple phone being taken.
Rio, who studies at Manchester Metropolitan University from Newton, said: 'I'm still not sure if I left it on the self-service till, or if he took it out of my bag. It was only when I got home that I realised it was missing.
'Luckily I had registered with MobileMe, which is a tracking device. I went to the police in Earlestown and got in touch with my boyfriend Lewis Hughes.

'The device shows up on a map and using satellites you can track where it's going. Within 45 minutes they knocked on his door and arrested him.


'He must have thought how have they found me so quickly. The trouble is Lewis thinks he's Inspector Morse now.'
The hapless criminal was punished with a two-month curfew by magistrates.
The hapless crook, Liam Aspin, aged 31 from Meyrick Court in Newton, pleaded guilty to the offence on Wednesday, July 6 and was placed under curfew for two months.
He will also be electronically tagged and must not leave his home between 7am and 7pm until Wednesday, September 21.
He was also told to pay £85 court costs, which will be deducted from his benefits.
