Developer Finds A Way To Downgrade iOS 5.1 To iOS 5.0.1 for Apple iPhone 4 & Apple iPad 2

iH8sn0w, the well known iOS developer and researcher who is responsible for the production of Sn0wbreeze, iFaith, iReb and f0recast has been hard at work again trying to resolve an issue that has been tainting the experience of owners of the iPhone 4S and iPad 2. The said two Apple devices are powered by the A5 processor, and as any jailbreak fan will know, it hasn’t previously been possible to perform firmware downgrades on those two units. When Apple releases a new version of iOS, they promptly stop signing the older firmware, meaning that any official restores result in the user installing the latest official iOS version onto their device.

In normal circumstances, going to the latest version of iOS isn’t really a big issue for standard users. However, the problem occurs when iDevice owners who wish to perform a jailbreak update their software, leaving them having to sit and wait patiently until the Dev-Teams produce a working, distributable jailbreak for that new iOS version. On older devices, users can benefit from a firmware downgrade to versions of iOS that Apple no longer signs as long as they have the relevant SHSH blobs saved for that firmware. In most cases, Cydia automatically captures any available blobs and update the users’ Cydia app with the blobs that have been saved. Jailbreak fans also use the very popular and powerful TinyUmbrella tool to quickly and efficiently capture available SHSH blobs and save them locally on their machines for use at a later date.

Although we have had the iPad 2 since March 2011, and the iPhone 4S since October, there hasn’t been a method available to allow users to downgrade these A5 powered devices which means that a restore is required for any reason that the latest firmware version would be installed. Canadian based iOS developer and hacker iH8sn0w claims to have found a loophole in Apple’s APTicket system that allowed him to successfully downgrade his iPad 2 from iOS 5.1 to 5.0.1. The good news is that he also believe that the loophole he has found will also allow firmware downgrades on Apple’s new iPad running on the new A5X processor. Obviously this will only be possible when newer firmwares become available due to the fact that all new iPads were actually shipped with iOS 5.1, which is the current version.

The news basically means that owners of the iPad 2, the new iPad and the iPhone 4S have finally been invited to the downgrade party and will be able to restore their devices to any firmware of their choice, providing that they have the relevant SHSH blobs saved. Other than a tweet from iH8sn0w about the APTicket system loophole, we have no additional information from the developer, but as it filters through we will be sure to bring it to you.

Angry Birds Space Now Available For Download on iOS, Android, PC & Mac

Angry Birds has been to iOS and Android what Call Of Duty has been to consoles over the the last few years. Those crazy, unstoppable birds have flown as far as PC, Mac, Facebook and Google Chrome in their never-ending quest to defend the nest.

With three versions already on the market, Rovio has added a fourth edition to Angry Birds Rio, Angry Birds Seasons and the original version. First previewed earlier this month, Angry Birds Space takes things quite literally to another dimension. The initial trailer featured International Space Station rep Don Pettit, and was actually filmed in a spaceship, with Pettit test-firing plush toy versions of the fluffy birds at zero gravity.

Angry Birds Space incorporates some of the physics we’ve already seen, but as you’d expect from outer space, the game contains planets with their own gravitational agendas – keeping things interesting. Up until now, the series could be accused of being rather same – with levels, birds, and their respective powers not variant enough to differentiate each title.
If you’re an Angry Birds addict (and there are plenty of you out there), you can download Angry Birds Space via the download links below. Those wielding the smartphone-come-tablet that is the Samsung Galaxy Note can enjoy exclusive content including a branded level, a 30-level DLC pack for free, and the coveted new Lazer bird.

Feel free to let us know if the new game lives up to your expectations, by dropping a comment on our Facebook or Google+ pages!

Position In Queue For The New iPad Is Up For Sale On eBay

Every year, hundreds of people line up outside the Apple store to get the latest version of iPhone as well as the iPad. Some people find it dumb, while the others love to wait in the queue to get their latest smartphone and tablet outside the Apple Store. Last week, Apple announced the next generation of its tablet device, the iPad 3 or the new iPad. It features a 9.7 inch Retina Display, sporting a resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels, Apple A5X dual-core processor, 5 megapixel iSight camera, 4G LTE Connectivity and much more.
Australia was the first country to get the new iPad, followed by Japan. Yesterday, hundreds of people lined up outside the Apple’s CBD store in Sydney and also at Apple flagship store in Hong Kong. The new iPad will go on sale in the UK and US within few hours. iPad buyers have already started queuing up at the London’s Regent Street Apple store from the last four days.

Production of 7.85 Inches Apple iPad Moving Ahead with More Suppliers

Digitimes  has come up with a potential "iPad mini" rumor -  a 7.85-inch screen that the publication says Apple is targeting for release later this year. Digitimes has found a new report from Taiwanese newspaper United Evening News making similar claims and outlining a number of companies making up Apple's supply chain for the device (Translated by Google translation)

According to the report, Apple will be utilizing Pegatron as its assembler for the device, forgoing its main partner Foxconn for this project. Apple and Pegatron do, however, have a long-standing relationship with the assembler already contributing to iPhone production and rumored at several points to be involved in iPad 3 production as well.

eyeSight set to launch Gesture-controlled Music Player application for Apple iPhone & iPad

eyeSight Mobile Technologies has announced that they would launch SoundWave music app with new gesture recognition technology at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2012 in Barcelona, Spain. They were the ones behind the gesture controls in the Micromax A85 that was launched last November. The SoundWave app for iPhone and iPad would enable users to control their iPhones and iPads using simple hand gestures.

Following the app’s release, developers would be able to download eyeSight’s unique SDK to develop a whole new range of gesture-controlled applications and games.

Apple iPad Mini for US$299, would 'crush' tablet rivals, as per reports

Apple could price an 8-in. iPad as low as US$299, an analyst said today, as part of a strategy to "crush the opposition."

Rumors of a smaller iPad resurfaced earlier this week after the Wall Street Journal, citing unnamed sources, reported that Apple was contemplating a tablet with an 8-inch display.

Then, several experts expressed scepticism that Apple would introduce a tablet with a screen smaller than the current 9.7-inch size of the current iPad.

Rhoda Alexander, senior manager of tablet and monitor research at IHS iSuppli, disagrees. "Based on our sources, we're very solid [in our belief] that Apple will release a smaller iPad that uses a 7.85-inch display, essentially an 8-inch screen, this year," said Alexander.

iSuppli's projection for a release: The fourth quarter of 2012.

With savings from downsizing the display and associated touchscreen, and perhaps reducing the storage memory to a default 8GB, Apple could price what Alexander's dubbed the "iPad Mini" -- perhaps a sop to the Mac Mini name that Apple uses for its petite desktop Mac -- as low as US$299, although $349 would be another option.

"Apple doesn't need to compete with the $200 price point," Alexander argued, referring to the price tag of Amazon's Kindle Fire, a 7-inch device the e-tailer started selling last November.

Adding a smaller iPad would let Apple address several issues, said Alexander.

Apple's iPad driving accelerated enterprise transition away from printing

A new analysis shows that the adoption of tablets in the enterprise, led largely by Apple's iPad, is having an accelerating impact on the decline corporate printing.

Investment bank Morgan Stanley said Tuesday in a note to investors that the rapid ascent of tablets for business use has adversely affected printing by more than it had originally predicted. Last February, a Blue Paper from the company predicted an 8-15 percent decline in printing, but a new survey shows cuts as deep as 16 percent due to increased tablet use combined and company measures to curtail printing.

The firm surveyed 700 tablet users in the U.S. about how the devices affect their printing behavior at work. 46 percent of respondents said they printed less, with 13 percent indicating that they printed 16 percent less after owning a tablet.

Leaked iPad 3 Rear Shell, Display, and Dock Connector Cable Matched Together

Last week, repair firm iLab Factory posted a photo of a Sharp display that was said to carry a resolution of 2048x1536 in a 9.7-inch size and be targeted for the iPad 3.

The company now reports (via 9to5Mac) that it has obtained the rear shell and dock connector cable parts that have also been circulating and matched all three together, increasing the likelihood that the leaks are genuine parts. The parts do show that the iPad 3 is marginally thicker than the iPad 2, which has been rumored by a number of sources as Apple has sought to increase battery capacity to drive the higher-resolution display and tweak other components.
First of all, in comparison to a back plate of iPad2, the iPad3 one(?) is a little bit thicker; less than 1mm, and equal-sized length and breadth.

The report goes on to show in a series of photos that mounting holes on both the display and the dock connector/ribbon cable line up exactly with those on the rear shell.

The report also examines the rear camera mounting points on the claimed iPad 3 shell, noting that they are indeed different than on the iPad 2 although the hole in the rear shell does appear to be essentially the same size as in the iPad 2. The difference in camera mounting had previously been noted in other leaked photos.

Apple is expected to introduce the iPad 3 in the first week of March, with the first round of launches set to follow soon after.

Bring Your iOS Folders To Life With FolderSwitcherColor Tweak For iPhone

The third party application store, Cydia, has achieved phenomenal success in the relatively short time it has been existence. Obviously, the success of any sales platform is predominantly down to these consumers who use it day in and day out, without those people who require additional tweaks and utilities on their devices, it simply wouldn’t exist.
So just what do you look for when you launch Cydia on your iDevice and browse through the content? Some experienced users have a number of developers they follow, and will always purchase or download their software, others have a list of essential tweaks which they always install direct from the manage account section, and some browse through the categories and changes section freely, looking for something awesome to enhance their device.

Whatever type of Cydia user you may be, there is no escaping from the fact that the platform contains thousands and thousands of themes and aesthetic modifications. In fact, it contains so many that a lot of people actually turn off the theme category to allow faster loading of the repositories. The work contained within the theme section tends to be anything ranging from a simple icon replacement to a full user interface replacement for the whole operating system. Photoshop gurus spend months working on full aesthetic replacements which contain numerous icon sets, wallpapers, animated lock screens and interactive widgets for things like weather and finance services.

But what if, like me, you are one of these people who actually likes the ‘stock’ look of the operating system? I personally use minor enhancements to tweak things like my docked icons, and will maybe add an additional wallpaper or two, but overall I am very happy with the native look of iOS. A new tweak in the Cydia store called FolderSwitcherColor will allow users to make subtle, but effective changes to all folder backgrounds and the background contained within the multi-tasking tray. FolderSwitcherColor isn’t a theme, but instead can be used independently to modify the stock folder or switcher colors.

From  a usability perspective, it would be nice if the developer found someway of adding a settings option, allowing the end user to select a user defined color using RGB toggles for maximum customization, but until then the tweak is activated using Jay Freeman’s WinterBoard, and allows the choice of eleven different colors for the switcher and folder background. FolderSwitcherColor is developed by Raviraj Minawala and is available free of charge on the ModMyi repository within Cydia. The tweak is only available for Retina capable devices, which means your iPhone 4, 4S and iPod touch fourth generation.

You will obviously need to jailbreak your iPhone to install this tweak. For jailbreaking iPhone 4S and iPad 2.

Jailbreak Apple iPhone 4S And iPad 2 On Windows The Easy Way Using Absinthe [VIDEO]

Yesterday was a rogue day for the jailbreaking community when they were blessed with the first-ever iPhone 4S and iPad 2 jailbreak. Two separate tools were released for jailbreaking A5-based devices, one was Absinthe for Mac by the Chronic Dev Team, and the other one, which was a command line-based tool for both Windows and Mac users by the iPhone Dev Team.

Absinthe, which comes to us from the creators of the original GreenPois0n tool, is probably one of the the simplest one-click jailbreaking tool that we’ve come across in recent times. You really don’t have to do much except for clicking one “Jailbreak” button to jailbreak the iPhone 4S and the iPad 2, but it was limited to Mac users only, until now.

The Chronic Dev Team has been working their heads off for the release of the Windows version of Absinthe, and as promised, it is now available for download.
Just like its Mac counterpart, its simple to use and it does what it should, that is to provide you with an untethered jailbreak for your iPhone 4S and iPad 2 running iOS 5.0.1.

Keep in mind that Absinthe is no way an unlocking tool and is solely meant for jailbreaking your A5-based iOS devices in hand, namely, the iPhone 4S and iPad 2. We’ve emphasized on this point in previous posts before that those looking forward to unlock their iPhone 4S should stay on iOS 5 and should not in any case update to iOS 5.0.1. If you have updated to iOS 5.0.1, unfortunately, then you’re out of luck for any upcoming software-based unlock for the time being. At this point in time, Apple is also not signing the original release of iOS 5 which was released alongside the iPhone 4S to the public, therefore a downgrade to iOS 5 from iOS 5.0.1 is also not possible.
The release of the untethered jailbreak for the iPhone 4S has opened a tremendous amount of possibilities and doorways for some serious tweaks and mods. Siri, our favorite personal assistant, after using it for a good couple of months got a little boring, but thanks to the hardworking jailbreak developers, the utility of the said assistant has been pushed to a whole new level.
With tweaks for the 4S which allow users to change the color of Siri’s mic to giving the capability of making Siri launch native apps using the power of your voice, the untethered jailbreak is a must-have for users who are looking forward to get more from their iPhone than they paid for.
To jailbreak your iPhone 4S or iPad 2 on iOS 5.0.1 untethered using Absinthe for Windows, simply follow our step by step guide posted here. Alternatively, you can use also use the iPhone Dev Team’s command line tool for jailbreaking on Windows and Mac both by following the steps posted here. But be advised; the tool has a bit of a learning curve, therefore we recommend that you stick to Absinthe due to simplicity.

For those of you who are sporting A4 devices, you can follow our complete step by step guide posted here to jailbreak iOS 5.0.1 untethered on iPhone 4, 3GS, iPad 1, and iPod touch 3G/4G using Redsn0w or Sn0wbreeze.

iOS 5.0.1 being Run on iPhone 4S & Jailbroken iPad 2

The fight to jailbreak Apple's A5-chip-powered devices, specifically the iPhone 4S and the iPad, is nearing its end. Hacker "pod2g" and his crew of iOS exploit seekers have released photos and videos of a jailbroken iPhone 4S and a jailbroken iPad 2, both running iOS 5.0.1.
The most compelling proof that an A5 jailbreak is close comes in the form of a video from pod2g and the Chronic Dev Team (via iDownloadBlog). The jailbreak, performed on the iPhone 4S, is completely untethered and seems to be working great.

Backing up the show of the iPhone 4S, pod2g posted a photograph of a jailbroken iPad 2 running iOS 5.0.1.

(Credit: pod2g)
Still, no official date has been mentioned for the public release of a jailbreak solution for A5 devices. The closest to a time frame we've seen has been pod2g's ominous blog note a couple days ago, "Only a few to wait now."
Are you a jailbreaker? What's your favorite non-Apple-sanctioned app? Let me know in the comments!

The new iPhone & iPad might have Thunderbolt technology, hints patent

Patently Apple spied an Apple patent that hints at that very eventuality. The patent, which is one of three new Thunderbolt patent applications from the Cupertino tech giant, details how a connection could be established with mobile devices.
"A connection may be provided between a portable media player and a display, a computer and a portable media player, or between other types of devices."
It should be taken with a pinch of salt, but that could suggest Apple has Thunderbolt connections in mind for new mobile devices.
That could significantly speed up moving data to and from those gadgets, as this weird new connection allows for 10Gbps data transfer.
Apple unveiled the Thunderbolt port last year, having smuggled it inside 2011's MacBook Pro. Since then it's popped up on the MacBook Air and iMac.
Thunderbolt is like a combination of a PCI Express port and DisplayPort, and while the company has been notoriously shy when it comes to slapping extra ports on its mobile devices, the fact that Thunderbolt is already on loads of Apple's own tech indicates it might be ready to make a design sacrifice and stick a port on the side of the next iPhone.
How Apple would use that port is anyone's guess. It could be used for speedier data transfer of photos and suchlike, while Patently Apple notes that faster battery charging could be a possibility.
Thunderbolt was born of a collaboration between Intel and Apple, with the tech known by its code name 'Light Peak'. Intel is planning on bringing Thunderbolt to PCs this year.

How to Set Up Multiple User Accounts on Your Jailbroken iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch

(Note - Please don't  try it for iPad, some users have reported to have some bugs)

As TechCrunch noted earlier today, a "guest mode" on your iPhone, or iPod touch would be a very useful feature. Fortunately for those of you who jailbreak, you can have that feature right now.
iUsers is a jailbreak tweak the will give you the ability to run multiple user accounts on your iDevice. It was designed for iPad, so it works properly there, but if you don't mind a few quirks you can still use it on an iPhone or iPod touch as well. To get it set up, just watch the video above or follow these steps:
How to Set Up Multiple User Accounts on Your Jailbroken iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch
  1. Open Cydia, tap the Manage tab, tapSources, then the Edit button, and finally the Add button. You'll get a window that starts you off with http:// to which you'll want to addcydia.blogeeks.com. (Note that there's only a single "g" in the URL.) Once you've got that in there, go ahead and add the new repository. Cydia will do its thing and reload itself, then ask you to return to Cydia.
  2. Tap the Search tab in Cydia and search for iUsers. When the results load, selectiUsers and install it. When it has finished installing you'll be asked to restart Springboard (your home screen app), which you should go ahead and do.
  3. After Springboard restarts the lock screen will come up and you'll be asked to set up multiple users before you can use it. Go ahead and set up your first user by following the on-screen prompts.
  4. When you're done, go into the Settings app on your home screen and look for the new iUsers tab. It should be about halfway down. Tap it and you'll be able to add additional users. This is where you can create a guest account.
  5. Once you've created all the users you want, lock your phone and try to unlock it. You'll see a little icon with people in it inside of the "slide to unlock" bar. Tap that and you'll be able to choose the account you want to use. (Note that on the iPhone and iPod touch there's a bit of a glitch that makes it hard to see the account names, but you can still select them. Watch the video above for help with this.)
That's all there is to it. Just perform the same user selection steps described above to switch back to your other account. Now you can have multiple users on your device, or just have a guest account when you don't want your friends getting into your data.
