Apple moved to expand the availability of its new iPhone 4S today, opening up pre-orders in 22 additional countries.
The updated device officially arrives in the new markets on October 28, but customers who don't want to wait in line at various Apple Stores can place their orders early.
Those new countries include: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland.
The iPhone 4S was released in the U.S., Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, and the U.K. on October 14.
The Web sites for the new countries, including Ireland and Spain say the iPhone 4S will ship within one to two weeks. Customers are limited to two iPhones.
The overseas sites list unlocked prices. A 16GB black iPhone 4S in Ireland, for example, starts at €599, or about $831, and goes up to €799 ($1,109). In the U.S., customers can purchase a 16GB for $199, a 32GB for $299, and a 64GB for $399 with a two-year contract from AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, and soon, C Spire. An unlocked version of the iPhone 4S, priced between $649 and $849, will be available for U.S. customers in November.
The iPhone 4S includes CDMA and GSM radios, making it a true world phone.
Yesterday, AT&T said it has sold 1 million iPhone 4S smartphones, and Apple this week revealed that customers have snapped up 4 million iPhone 4S devices since launch. But both companies, as well as Verizon, also admitted that the buzz around the possible launch of a revamped iPhone in the fall prompted customers to hold off buying the iPhone 4. Those rumors, which centered primarily on a totally upgraded "iPhone 5" didn't come to pass, but any disappointment with the iPhone 4S has apparently not hurt sales.
