Apple believed to invest $1 bn in Sharp’s display production plant
Rumors related to Apple products are in abundance these days. We have come across a bunch of rumors, both believable and over the top since the past several months.
And now as the time for the launch of the new iPhone is nearing, the frequency of rumors has considerably increased. The body of the iPhone 5 has been discussed almost with every rumor.
And now as the time for the launch of the new iPhone is nearing, the frequency of rumors has considerably increased. The body of the iPhone 5 has been discussed almost with every rumor.
But not much has been spoken about the display of the iPhone, since it is almost certain that it will feature a 4 inch display instead of the relatively smaller 3.5 inch display.
Meanwhile, MF Global FXA Securities sent in a sales note to its clients which mentioned that Apple is planning to invest $1 billion in Sharp’s Kameyama plant in Japan which specialises in display production. This move seems plausible since Apple is looking for manufacturers other than LG to produce displays for the future iPhone.

Sharp and Toshiba are actually known to be the two companies that are in the running to manufacture displays for future iDevices. But given that Sharp’s LTPS displays accommodate for higher display resolutions, it wouldn’t be hard for Apple to slide towards Sharp.
Toshiba on the other hand has demoed a 720x1280 4 inch LCD screen which is said to blow everything away out of proportions.
At the end of the day for Apple, it will all come down to the production cost of the display. If Toshiba or Sharp are reasonable enough with the pricing, there is no doubt that Apple will embrace either of them.
Ultimately, Apple doesn’t want to deal with Samsung or LG in the future, mainly due to the fact that both the companies sell competitive Android smartphones in the market.
Sharp’s stocks have increased by 2% since the rumor sparked off which clearly speaks volumes about the significance of the deal.
