The Next iPhone To Have A Dual LED Flash?

The launch of the new iPhone is fast approaching, and as expected, people are making assumptions about the hardware of the device. While rumours about the device having a better camera had been surfacing since May last year, when the iPhone 4 wasn't even out, very little has been spoken about its flash. A better camera on the next iPhone is almost certain, with some stating that Sony could be preparing the camera with the Exmor R sensor used in SE's flagship handsets like the Xperia Arc. Newer rumours suggested that OmniVision could be making the major chunk of sensors.

The Single LED Flash on the iPhone 4

There was no talk about the flash of the new iPhone, which made us feel that Apple might not even bother changing it. Now, new reports suggest that Apple could be planning on a dual LED flash for the iPhone (4S/5). The LED flash on the iPhone 4 are Lumileds from Philips, though Apple might switch to a dual LED flash made by a Taiwanese company with the likely contenders being Edison OptoLite-On or Everlight Electronics. Therefore, a dual LED flash on the next iPhone seems very likely.

Dual LED flashes are commonly spotted on most Android and Nokia devices. These improve the picture clarity and also rectify some of the flaws spotted with single LED flashes, such as low brightness and red eye. Apple could also bring some other new things to the table, such as a dual core processor, improved camera, and a bigger display. Therefore, it wouldn't be farfetched to speculate the inclusion of dual LED flashes. Camera hasn't really been the iPhone 4's strong point; will the new iPhone change that? We'll have to wait for a couple of months to get a clearer picture.
