Xbox Live App for iPhone & iPad released by Microsoft
Microsoft is doing a Siri in its Xbox! In a surprise move, Microsoft has come up with Xbox Live app for iOS. This free universal app can be run on iPhone as well as iPad. This will a first for Microsoft in supporting its competitor product with its app. Xbox Live, initially had only boasted full support of Windows Phone 7 since its launch, along with plenty of third-party apps to allow partial Xbox Live access on Android and iOS devices.
This app offers a few of the features of the Xbox Live hub and lets users change the Avatar’s outfit, send messages to other Live users, update friends list, edit Live profile, and view or compare achievements. It also includes a Home page spotlighting videos to showcase games, and tips. It has no tiles, but the app copies WP7′s horizontal-swiping navigation, typography, and bottom-bar menu items.
Although in Windows Phone 7 using this app supported games integration with Live, this is not the case in the app version that is formatted for iOS. However, messaging friends seems to a substantial reason to go for this app. Messaging here is a lot easier than pecking around a virtual keyboard with your game controller on the Xbox. Besides, one can message without stopping the game one is playi9ng which is a good idea for gamers.
Another big news is that the official Xbox Live iOS app does not appear to support notifications at all. No notifications appear on getting a new message or when someone invites you to play a game. Besides, the app does not figure anywhere in the iOS settings.
Microsoft setting aside its phone rivalry long enough to develop official access to Xbox Live on Apple’s platform was a very customer-focused decision for Microsoft, but getting notifications working for messages and game invites is a must if it is in the earnest to service the iPhone-using players.
