Google+ reopens barn door for invites, plus Gmail no longer required
Google+ invitees, start your engines. Again. After shutting off the spigot for allowing early Google Plus adopters to invite others into the system, Google has now reopened the door – for the moment. As it stands, any Google+ user can invite anyone they want to join the service with no apparent limits. And unlike last time around, the invitees no longer need to have a gmail.com account in order to be invited. Google+ had been criticized thus far for being limited solely to geek invitees and the geek friends they invited, with almost no mainstream presence on the new social network whatsoever. Many or even most of the updates thus far by users have come in the form of posts, cartoons, and even animated graphics proclaiming how much better Google+ is than Facebook, or how awesome it is that Google+ has not yet been infested by mainstream users. But with the invitation system back up and running, the potential now exists for non-geek users to get their foot in the door, at least if the geeks who are already inside are willing to invite them. And we here at omgtechies are willing to do exactly that.
Join us on omgtechies fan page , make a wall post and we’ll send you a Google+ invite, as many as it’ll let us send, until they close the invitation ranks again. We respect the fact that Google wants to only add limited numbers of users to Google Plus at a time so as to ensure that it runs smoothly from a technical perspective, but we also want you guys to be able to join us – it’s a bit lonely in there right now. So head on over to our Facebook page, leave us the email address you want the invite sent to (we won’t use it for anything else), and we’ll get you hooked up.
